Welcome to a brand new school year. As we begin the school year many papers come home with your child. I know it can be overwhelming, but please ask your child for all papers each night and read everything. Some papers contain timely information and some will need to be signed and returned to school. Please help your child to return these promptly.
I believe that parent involvement is an integral part of education and with your help we can make this year a wonderful experience.
Third grade is a transitional year where your child will turn in homework on a daily basis. Children will be expected to be involved daily in literacy strategies that will enhance their reading comprehension, and understanding of all types of text. Parents can help with literacy by providing a consistent emphasis on learning, reading at home, and by making reading a priority. Please be aware of the amount of time spent on electronic devices. While these are fun and sometimes educational activities, they can rob your child of precious time that could be spent on literacy and reading.
Homework will be given daily. Students should need to spend no more than 60 minutes on homework per day. This includes written work, online assignments, and home reading. It is very important that students memorize their multiplication tables each day as part of homework.
As your child's teacher, I expect your child to follow the classroom and school rules at all times. These rules were developed in order to make each person at our school feel safe, loved, and respected. If your child follows these rules, your child should and will be rewarded. If your child does not follow these rules, consequences will be earned. Please review the following rules with your child:
1. Show respect for property, self, and others (through words and actions.)
2. Follow all directions the first time given.
3. Stay on task and always do your best work.
4. Raise your hand and wait to be called on.
5. Practice the skill of courtesy in actions and words.
1. Come to class everyday on time and prepared. Prepared means you come with all school supplies, books, and completed homework.
2. Keep your desk, personal floor, notebook, and pencil bag clean and clutter free.
3. Only two students at a time may: *sharpen pencils *use the restroom *use the sink.
1. Verbal praise and good notes/emails home.
2. Recognition at assemblies.
3. Special privileges, treats, and leadership roles in our classroom and school.
4. Positive citizenship grades on the report card.
5. Respect for yourself.
1. Verbal warning
2. Clip moved to yellow
3. Clip moved to blue
4. Clip moved to red
Other Consequences: Conference with counselor or Principal, special behavior modification plan, or negative citizenship grades on report card. Chronic misbehavior will cause students to miss out on the following activities: Special privileges, assemblies, class celebrations.
Please review our class discipline plan on our class website. Please sign your child’s behavior log daily.

Communication: I feel strongly that children receive the best education when parents and teachers are working together. Please feel free to contact me with any concerns or questions regarding your child. The best time to reach me is after 2:05 p.m. If you are calling during school hours please leave a message with the office staff and I will respond in a timely manner. Please do not ask our office staff to put nonemergency calls through to the classroom during school hours. Too many interruptions disrupt our learning environment. Please feel free to contact me by email. Again, I will respond in a timely manner. My email address is: email@example.com
Hope to see you at Back to School Night on September 24, 2014 from 6-7 PM.
